Reader Lia, 18, from Honolulu, Hawaii, loves “baking (and then eating), dachshunds, hammock-ing, beach-ing, photographing, and naturally, writing.” In her first guest post for I Heart Daily, she shares some favorite high school memories (that’s her graduating in major leis at left). Congratulations, Lia! The floor is yours:
“For the past couple days, I’ve been thinking through all the ways I can now say I went to high school. Past tense. Teenage angst has consumed the best of me. Like, is it really over? Have I become one of those — well, old-er — people who now says, “Back in high school” before practically improvising a 400-page autobiography about myself between the ages of 14 and 18?
“I have. And in the spirit of things I loved:
Back in high school…
♥ “Whilst examining a cell in anaphase, my blonde hair, blue-green eyed, tanned, and naturally, unbelievably attractive surfer of a lab partner told me, “Skinny girls are overrated.” Did he really? He really did.
♥ “My AP Government teacher gave me two pieces of unforgettable love advice amidst discussing election patterns in Congress. 1) Girls get into superficial relationships and forget to ask themselves ‘How does he make me feel?’ And 2) The biggest mistake would be spending more time planning your wedding than your marriage. These and the First Amendment are all I remember from Government class — correction: my academic senior year entirely.
♥ “I discovered Great Expectations. It’s basically the story of a misguidedly ambitious boy who seeks a Disney ending to his messed up love story entirely devised by a bitter old woman and made possible by a generous convict — named Magwitch.
♥ “I watched a Varsity Boys Water Polo Game. That is all.
♥ “Just kidding, that’s not all. It was the best thing to happen to me since peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on no-crust white bread.
♥ “I got into college, and that’s undoubtedly the best part of it all.
“For all you continuing high schoolers, trudge through! One day it will become apparent that it wasn’t that bad… ‘back in high school.'”
