Sally Hansen Salon Effects: Real Nail Polish Strips

Ready to ride the crazy nail train? Sally Hansen has made it easy to get boldly patterned nails with Salon Effects ($10), their new line of self-adhesive “nail stickers.”
Here’s how it works: the strips come in eight different sizes so you can choose the best fit for each of your nails. Peel off the backing and apply the sticker carefully to your nail bed; get rid of bubbles with a cuticle stick (the kit comes with one), and then file off the remaining portion for a smooth finish. For a video on how they work, take a look-see here.

Get in Touch With Your Future

Do people bury time capsules anymore? I remember putting one in the ground with my sixth grade class, but we never dug it up, which kind of defeats the purpose. I think I wrote a letter that started “Dear Melissa, Age 25,” and boy do I wish I knew what I’d said to myself. Probably something about my crush on Ronnie S., but I digress…
Anyway, I found a site where you can write notes to your future self, FutureMe. You can rant about your recent breakup or muse about whether your self-in-five-years is making big dreams come true. Remind yourself of something important from your past or just ask yourself what’s up. What I’m doing: Making a 3-year wish list. Let’s see how many wishes I can cross off by 2014!

RED Hearts: Cute Feather Accessories

RED Hearts are guests posts on I Heart Daily from the authors of RED: Teenage girls in America write on what fires up their lives today.
Today’s RED Hearts post is from Cammi Henao, 17, of Chicago, Illinois, who writes about her penchant for Ke$ha and feathers:

Living in Chicago, being exposed to different styles and new fashions is a given. Lately, feathers have been very much “in,” and necklaces, bracelets, headbands, keychains, even hair extensions, have really taken off. Personally, I dig the trend.

I’m also a devoted fan of Ke$ha, who happens to be a fellow friend of the feather. So which accessories have made my favorites list? If all goes well, I plan on layering and wearing all of the following to the Ke$ha concert here next week.

5 Natural Drugstore Beauty Buys

Today’s post is from the super informative and fun-to-read beauty blog, Beauty Bets. Elizabeth Dehn, the founder of the site, has bestowed us with her five favorite natural drugstore items. After you read through her post, head over to Beauty Bets for more beauty bits!

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush ($12, pictured). While it’s hard to prove the mood-enhancing benefits of this blush, everything will be coming up roses once you dust the violet-scented, pretty pink powder on your cheeks.

Indie Crafter du Jour: Briana Rose of Five and Two

Five and Two is Briana Rose’s beauteous accessories collection. It’s colorful, inspired by nature, and possesses a magical sensibility. Her use of rough gems creates a geometric theme in her pieces, which I love, because it’s not too girly or prim (perfect for former tomboys like moi). Here are five standout pieces from her line:
Iris Pink Pyramid Ring ($24, pictured). The palest pink softens the appearance of this pointy, bold ring.

Give or Get a Free Prom Dress

It’s getting close to Prom time, and whether you’re a t-shirt dress fan or a full-on gown kind of girl, it’s important to have, you know, something cool to wear. That’s why we love The Princess Project, an organization that invites people to dig through their closets and give old formal dresses a new life. To date, the California-based project has donated dresses and accessories to more than 15,000 girls in need.
This year, the biggest dress giveaways will take place on March 12, 13 and 20th from 8am-5pm at 901 Market Street in San Francisco (there are also Princess Project events in Silicon Valley and San Diego). Girls camp out the night before and line up at the door to have their chance to choose from all types of dresses in sizes 0-30. All you need is a high school ID to enter. The Princess Project is 100% volunteer run, and lots of volunteers are teen girls who want to help their peers find their dream dresses for Prom — sweet.

If You Like “Glee”…

If you’re like me and millions of other TV watchers, you love Glee. It’s funny, heartwarming, and teaches us important life lessons… like how football players like singing, too. But the key ingredient to this show’s success are the musical numbers. Without the song-and-dance numbers, Glee would just be… Bleh.

Lips That Shimmer And Shine

There seems to be a trend of glossy lip pencils in the beauty world lately. I just raved about Clinique’s Chubby Sticks last week, and today I’m here to sing the praises of Tarte’s LipSurgence natural lip lusters ($24 each).
These twist-up sticks are just like Tarte’s best-selling natural lip tints, except these provide a dose of shimmer and luster. The glosses are made without all those icky things we like to avoid in our beauty products — parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrances — and with awesome natural ingredients (like jojoba seed oil, vitamin C and E) that keep lips protected and moisturized.

Pura Vida Bracelets

I’m into friendship bracelets — simple ones, made out of embroidery floss and in lots of colors. And even if I don’t have a lot of friends, it makes me feel really popular when I wear them (kidding!).
Which brings me to Pura Vida bracelets. The short story is: two guys travel after college, meet a nice dude named Jorge in Costa Rica; Jorge makes these awesome bracelets, the friends bring them back to the states, and with Jorge’s help, a business is born.

DIY Fashion Week Style

It’s Fashion Week in NYC, and there are enough great trends coming down the runway to break a girl’s bank! So after I scroll through looks on style.com, I crack open P.S. – I made this… by Erica Domesek (Abrams).
Based on her blog of the same name, the book’s tagline is simply, “I see it. I like it. I make it.” Easy enough for the gifted crafters among us, right? What about girls like me who think re-sewing a button on a shirt is cause for huge accolades? After reading through Erica’s book, I’ve realized: There is hope!
