Summer Essential: The Little White Dress

While I usually avoid white clothing like the plague (I seem to magnetically attract stains and spills), I do make an exception for the LWD — the Little White Dress. It should be a staple of any summer wardrobe. Here are three super cute deals!
Circle Summer Dress, Wet Seal ($26.50, pictured). Perfectly sweet and easy to wear, this spaghetti strap dress features pretty circle detailing for some extra oomph. (Just don’t eat spaghetti while wearing it.)

Jordana Dress, Delia*s ($35.50, on sale). Go for this pleasantly peasant smock, with short sleeves and lace trim. Very Woodstock.

Revolutionize Your Shower Experience

This is the only, and probably last, beauty “advice” I ever got from my dad (I get a lot from my mom). Growing up, there was always a little round hard plastic brush in the shower. My dad used it to massage his scalp when he shampooed, because he had dandruff and it helped with his dry, itchy skin (sorry for outing you, Dad!)
However, I started using this little wonder product for my long hair. First, it feels amazing to really massage your head with the hard nubs (it gets your scalp really clean!). Plus, after you shampoo and condition, you can get all the tangles out of your hair in the shower, resulting in a super straight, knot-free mane.

Ooh! Fun Things To Do This Summer

Summer is cool, but it can also get kinda boring if you don’t have a lot planned. Done with the couch sitting? That’s where ooh.com comes in. The site finds quirky and unique activities going on all around the world!
With just a quick search I found food foraging tours (think finding salad ingredients in the woods),  beekeeping classes (they throw in lunch and a “hive tool” — which sounds mysterious and awesome), and a shoe college (learn how to make high heels).

Make Your Own Candy!

“Who can take tomorrow… dip it in a dream?” This Willy Wonka song has been in my head today because I am the CandyWoman! That’s right. I made my own gummy candies today. It ruled.
Glee Gum produces these fun candy-making kits ($13), and I tried the one where you make your own gummies! I ended up with a few wobbly, bright magenta candies that — despite their imperfect shapes — tasted amazing. The kit comes with sour mix, so you can go the Sour Patch Kids route if you want. I didn’t have the best molding tools (I just used the back of a teaspoon), so I got little round gummy drops. But if you have a bendy straw to make worms or a tiny bear to make, you know, gummy bears, then you’re all set.

RED Hearts: Nike Dunk Lows Rule

RED Hearts are guests posts on I Heart Daily from the authors of RED: Teenage Girls in America Write On What Fires Up Their Lives Today.
Today’s RED Hearts post is by Lisa Chau, 21, reporting from Ann Arbor, Michigan, who loves her Nike Dunk Lows:

I’m a sucker for shoes. You can find me every other week sprawled in the aisle of DSW, surrounded by boxes and boxes of size sixes with a pained, indecisive look on my face. Oh, the choices!

I love all types of shoes —  flats, sandals, flip-flops, wedges, boots, and of course, sneakers. But if it was a matter of life and death and I was absolutely forced to choose one pair of shoes to wear for the rest of my life, it would be my flashy gray, yellow and gold Nike Dunk Lows (with pink laces!).

Girls Playing Football? You betcha!

I played flag football in high school. It was called the “Powder Puff Tournament,” and it was a one-off game that pitted the girls in each class grade against each other. It was pretty awesome; all of a sudden, I understood why my guy friends loved playing and watching football.
So it’s no surprise to me that flag football is the fastest-growing girls’ varsity sport in Florida. The New York Times reports that nearly 5,000 girls are playing statewide. Nothing like throwing around the ole pigskin and kicking some ass!

The Best Moisturizers For Your Face, SPF Style

I’m about to be a total nag, but it’s seasonally necessary: You need to wear sunscreen. You can thank me in 20 years. Now, let’s move on to the practical part of this advice. I’ve scouted many a facial-cream-with-SPF. Some are too thick, some are ineffective, some smell bad… but these three? They’re just right.
Olay Complete All-Day Moisture SPF 15 ($9.50). The classic! We have it on good authority from a friend who works at a fancy fashion magazine that Olay products perform on par with the luxury beauty brands that cost five times as much. This moisturizer makes us believe.
