When you arrive at Prom, you might want to look like Cinderella–or you might not. For the less traditional Prom-goer, seeking out a unique dress isn’t always easy. So let us help. (If you’re a t-shirt girl, you’ll love this.)
Angela Johnson’s first design jobs included working for clothing lines owned by Mike D. of the Beastie Boys and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. Maybe that’s why she rocks. Angela creates one-of-a-kind, handcrafted, full-length ball gowns made from thrift and vintage tees.
The dresses are fashioned from whatever t-shirts she finds–or you can send in your own if you want a more personalized design. (I knew there was a reason to hang onto that neon Myrtle Beach tee from seventh grade!) You can ask for specific colors, but remember that the shades will be mixed due to the varied materials, which just makes it more interesting in our estimation. More amazingly, you can also request a theme–glitter unicorn Prom dress, anyone?–and Angela will do her best to incorporate lots of shirts that express it.
Specify that you want Angela to use G-rated shirts if your school is strict; she sometimes includes slogans that aren’t suitable for prime time. And if a full-length ball gown is a little much for you, Angela also designs shorter party dresses that blow our minds.
You’ll be the comfiest girl in the room (and the coolest). We promise.
